This test measures the levels of B12 in the blood to identify vitamin deficiency.

What is this test?
The Vitamin B12 test measures the amount of B12 in your blood to diagnose a deficiency. Vitamin B12 is important to maintaining energy levels and a functioning metabolism. It also plays an important role in balancing mood and controlling stress. Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms include anemia, fatigue, memory problems, poor balance, shortness of breath, and tingling feet.
Who is this test for?
If you are experiencing relevant symptoms, this test can be utilized to diagnose a B12 deficiency. The Vitamin B12 test is also recommended for patients who are anemic. A provider will typically order a B12 test if a CBC panel revealed abnormal MVC levels, as well. If you are on a restrictive diet that includes low caloric intake, veganism, or vegetarianism, a B12 test can be ordered to make sure you are not developing a dietary deficiency.
