Iron, Serum LabCorp
This test measures the amount of iron in the bloodstream to identify iron deficiency.

What is this test?
The Iron Serum test assesses the amount of iron in the bloodstream, which can identify a nutrient deficiency. Iron is responsible for assisting in the creation of hemoglobin, and an iron deficiency can lead to anemia.
Other iron labs, including the Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) Test and the Transferrin Test, are typically ordered alongside the Iron Serum Test to give a clearer picture of how iron is utilized by the body. These tests together can diagnose an iron deficiency.
Who is this test for?
If you are experiencing the symptoms of anemia, this test can help assess whether those are caused by an iron deficiency. Anemic symptoms include light-headedness, chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, overly pale skin, cold extremities, and an excessively quick heartbeat. This test can also assess the treatment of an iron deficiency if you have already been diagnosed.
