Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intact LabCorp
This test measures the amount of Parathyroid Hormone to determine a potential thyroid condition.

What is this test?
Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) Test measures the amount of PTH in the blood to screen for thyroid disease. PTH (also called parathormone) is a hormone released by the parathyroid glands that controls the amount of calcium in the bloodstream. Glands releasing PTH causes calcium levels to rise, while glands halting the production of PTH causes calcium levels to decrease. This is a natural process that helps the body find the right balance; however, sometimes PTH levels are abnormally high or low, which can cause health issues.
PTH levels can also indicate potential kidney disease, and track progress for managing kidney disease if you have already been diagnosed.
Who is this test for?
This test, often alongside a Calcium Serum Test and the Complete Thyroid Panel, can help identify whether PTH levels indicate diseases like hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. This test can also be used as a diagnostic tool for kidney disease and for the management of kidney conditions.
