Helper T-Lymphocyte Marker CD4 Test LabCorp

This is a test used to evaluate and monitor T-lymphocyte helper cells (CD4) and inducer T-cells. T-lymphocyte helper cells (such as CD4 cells) play a crucial role in orchestrating the response to infections. After an immune system response is activated, T-lymphocyte suppressor cells (such as CD8) deactivate the immune cells that are fighting infection. It is important to control and manage the immune response. AN overactive immune system may lead to tissue damage and auto-immune disorders. HIV-1 infection results in the decrease of CD4 T-cells, an increase of CD8 T-cells, a decrease in CD4: CD8 ratio, and destruction of immune function. Fasting is not required.
