Aldosterone is a hormone manufactured by the adrenal glands. It is found at the top of the kidneys and is responsible for the production of several other important hormones in the body. It affects blood pressure and also regulates sodium and potassium levels in our bloodstream among other things. This test is typically used in the evaluation of patients with hypertension and possible hyperaldosteronism.
